Many people seek help from our agency at times that are the most difficult for them. There are those of us who could not begin to imagine how challenging those times might be. With the help of trained and professional staff, outcomes are not always exactly the same, but, we have so many wonderful stories to share.
Some of the great things that are happening this summer at Opportunity House will certainly make you smile. Please consider a visit to our campus. You can use the "Contact Us" tab on this site to make arrangements for a tour.
The agency that first opened on North Second Street as a shelter for homeless men is so much more. Our newest addition, "The Garden" on Beech Street offers a beautiful, peaceful place where our clients (children, adults and families), volunteers and staff can take a break from the hectic world. Built and planted with love by volunteers from the community, the Garden is tucked away and filled with flowers, shrubs and trees that lend color, shade and even an occasional friendly squarel or bird. In proximity, it faces our next big venture... the Technology Center.
The Technology Center, an expansion of the Second Street Learning Center at Opportunity House, plans to open its front door on Beech Street (between 400 block of North 2nd and Pear Streets) during late summer 2011. The Center will offer curriculum to primarily school age children in the Greater Reading area. It will also offer extended programs to the younger children, not yet old enough to attend classes, during the traditional school hours.
To celebrate this tremendous venture, Opportunity House will offer several tour of the new facility in the early fall to the public. Please check back with our site offen for updates and tour schedules. And, mark your calendar for Saturday, September 24th - when we will host a carnival for the community... details to follow.
