Including Opportunity House in your estate

The Annette Painter Society

Planning your estate, large or small, is a very important matter. It requires time and thought to give the greatest benefit to people, agencies and chosen causes. The reward is assurance that all is in order and that your wishes will be carried out appropriately.

Annette Painter was a hard working individual who lived a simple life in Berks County. Mrs. Painter very generously made an average annual gift to the shelter and she had a interest in the work that was getting done at Opportunity House. She recognized the importance of Planned Giving and made the decision to donate a portion of her estate, upon her death, to the agency. In her planning she provided for her children, while at the same time caring for her community. Her gift of stock funded the beginning of the Opportunity House Endowment.

The board of directors at Opportunity House has made a commitment to grow this endowment to a minimum of $5,000,000. It will take time to reach this goal, and it will take many generous individuals, as well. All size gifts will help, and gifts may be made in many different ways. Each will benefit our clients equally. We ask you to consider a gift to our Endowment and thank you in advance for your dedication and kindness to Opportunity House.

Through the support of our donors, Opportunity House has given many children, adults and families the skills needed to become independent, contributing members of our community. With your support, we will continue to meet the needs of our neighbors, and be able to help future generations through effective programs and services.

Achieving Multiple Goals

If you have concerns about your long-term financial security and wonder if you'll be able to continue making the charitable gifts you would like, here's some good news. Careful financial planning can preserve or even enhance your financial security while making generous gifts possible. HOW?

Benefits, not sacrifice...
1. You may find that you can make the largest gift of your life from "what's left" in your retirement account, pension plan, or other vehicle for saving for retirement. Provide for your family first, then include charitable goals. In this way, you can retain complete control over the property you have worked a lifetime to accumulate.
2. Or you may want to create a charitable gift plan that provides for income and management of assets before a gift is ultimately made. The assets you transfer can provide you or a loved one with an income, then result in a charitable gift.
3. If you have children or grandchildren, you may want to use tax savings to purchase life insurance that designates them as beneficiaries. The policy proceeds could recoup the assets you gave as a gift.

For the future...
Retirement planning today is vitally important to ensure that you will be comfortable in later years. It is indeed practical for many friends of nonprofit organizations to continue giving while enjoying comfortable retirement years.
